Science and Religion

As reported by Chuck Colson, a recent science conference was held in California. But, scientists did not gather to discuss science or anything related to science. They gathered to discuss how they could cremate religion.
Nobel Prize-winning physicist Steven Weinberg proclaimed, "The world needs to wake up from its long nightmare of religious belief." He goes on to say, "Anything that we scientists can do to weaken the hold of religion should be done and may in the end be our greatest contribution to civilization."
Carolyn Porco of the Space Science Institute called for teaching "our children from a very young age about the story of the universe and its incredible richness and beauty." Adding, "It is already so much more glorious and awesome—and even comforting—than anything offered by any scripture or God concept I know."
Please explain to me what is so comforting about being nothing more than a glorified fish? What is so comforting about having no purpose for living, being a true accident of nature? What is so comforting about having no future except death? What is so comforting about being, essentially, of no value…at least no greater value than algae or a slug? There is no comfort there.
In fact, the low view of humankind that the theory of evolution provides does nothing for civilization. It contributed to white Aryan supremacy that fueled Nazi Germany’s claims.
My parents have volumes and volumes of antique books in their house. I was perusing a children’s history book from the early 1900’s. This was a school book used in American schools around 1910. It was wonderful and interesting until I got to the part where it explained the evolutionary development of man. It stated that Jews were the least evolved and the white Aryan man was the most evolved, with each race charted according to their evolutionary development. I was astonished. I pointed it out to my mother, who is of the Jewish race. It really helped me understand the racism that permeated our culture for so many years. Darwin’s theory was embraced by those people who were looking for a reason to look down upon other cultures.
This evolutionary view of man has been a terrible thing for society in so many ways. It contributed to the dehumanizing of infants in the womb. It contributes to so many ills of our current world. Children are taught early on that they are not valuable, special creations of the Lord God with a purpose and a plan “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works that God prepared in advance for us to do.” They are not told that a loving God in heaven thought of them even before He created the world. “For you were chosen in Christ Jesus before the foundations of the world.” They are taught that they simply ancestors of the monkeys, evolved into a more intelligent race – they are not more valuable than a monkey. “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
In the same conference mentioned above, there were many scientists there that were upset by the focus of the conference. Several stood up and tried to bring some reason to the group, stating that science does not negate one’s belief in God, but they were demoralized and shushed.
However, we need not fear these people. For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, powers and authorities in the heavenly realm. And He that is within us is greater than He that is in the world. It is not by might, not by power, but by His Spirit that God will claim the victory. Let us pray to that end!
Lord, we lift up all these scientists that are so deceived the enemy. The enemy has built up a fortified wall around their spiritual eyes that they cannot see the Truth. We ask you, Lord, in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to put a crack in the walls of their heart, remove the Spirit of blindness and allow your light to shine forth into their soul that they will see the Truth and receive you. I pray you will work in the scientific community to bring forth the truth. I pray that discoveries and experiments will come to light that absolutely convinces them that evolution is not true.Amen.
