Faith comes by hearing (and reading) the Word of God.
The other day I was struggling with some negative emotions: fears and worries about this and that. I am of the strong belief that fear and worry are a sign of a lack of faith. If I'm worried, then I'm not trusting in God. Well, I prayed and earnestly repented of my fears. Yet, I still felt that lack-luster feeling we have when we aren't experiencing the joy of being a child of God.
I spoke to a close friend about it and she reminded me that it's not just turning away from our fears, but it's turning to God's Word and believing Him, believing what He tells us is ours in Christ.
We all have heard and read the Scripture "all things work for the good," but there are SO many Scriptures that are even better and more hopeful than this promise. Yet, as always, God's only requirement is faith. Of course, faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Often, we want to make all God's wonderful promises to us conditioned upon works, while Paul exhorts the Galatians that we receive through faith:
"So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?" Galatians 3:5
So, I wanted to share some of the promises that have blessed me this week, I pray you will know they are for you as well - believe it, because it's true:
Psalm 91: 14 - 16
"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."
Romans 3: 22
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
(We are RIGHTEOUS through Christ
and all the promises for those who are RIGHTEOUS
are ours when we believe them!)
For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all;
Psalm 121: 7
The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
After reading those verses and combining them with faith - don't you feel so safe in the Lord? Don't you feel like you can just go and do God's will without fear? Don't you feel strengthened? I sure do!
Now I can once again experience the blessed peace of just being a child of God!
