What Shall We Use for Copywork?

I'll never forget the first time I ever heard someone's "testimony." I was a new Christian asked to gather with a group of young women to hear a testimony. I had no idea what that was, but I was so excited about my new faith and ready for whatever! That evening I listened to a lady describe her journey with God. One thing she said that stuck with me so strongly that I still remember it was a story of how God protected her from a rapist. When she realized that it was a miracle that this man could not break into her home, the Lord dropped a Scripture into her spirit so strongly that she knew it was the Lord telling her of what He had done. "He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. They will lift you up in your hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone." That Scripture was a part of one she had memorized as a child: Psalm 91.

Last year as my husband was struggling with some issues at work, he remembered that someone had told him to read Psalm 91 every day for a month and it will change your life. So he did. And boy did it! His faith grew. His trust in the Lord grew. As he learned to depend on God, not his own efforts, to work out the problems, the situation improved in ways that were obviously supernatural and miraculous. God worked mightily as he learned to believe in His protection and His ability to work everything out for the good.

Psalm 91. It's an incredible verse that is truly faith building.

I have been trying to get my children to memorize the entire verse, and found that the best way to do this is to have them work on it a bit each day. Recently, I realized that it would be even more beneficial to have them write the verse in their copywork each day, working on each section at a time.

There are so many wonderful pieces of literature and sayings that they could copy, but I believe we will not only feed the mind, but feed the soul the food it craves if we have them copy and memorize the Word of God in their writing.

I created for my children a copy and dictation book based on the Charlotte Mason method of copywork, which is very specific in how one goes about enhancing grammar, spelling and language usage during the writing process.

Because I have found it so helpful to do this, both for the benefit of teaching my children Language Arts, but also because it is truly giving them a foundation in a wonderfully inspiring and faith producing Bible verse, I have made this work available to others as an eBook. It costs only $6.99. It is 100 pages, but you can print it out as your child works through it.

Let our children hide His Word in their hearts as they learn to write!
